Vietnamese EV giant VinFast Auto India has inaugurated its largest electric vehicle showroom in India, located in the premium Teynampet area of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Spread across 4,700 sq ft, this flagship showroom is the company’s second outlet after Surat and is part of VinFast’s rapid expansion strategy in India.
🧭 Nationwide Expansion Plan
After launching its first showroom in Surat in July, VinFast has now tied up with 13 dealer partners to open 32 showrooms in 27 cities, with a target of 35 outlets by the end of 2025.
The Chennai showroom is operated in partnership with Maansarovar Motors and features VinFast’s upcoming electric SUVs – VF 6 and VF 7. These models are expected to go on sale later this month.
🔌 Infrastructure & Service Network
VinFast is also setting up a comprehensive EV support ecosystem in India:
- EV charging & aftersales: In partnership with RoadGrid
- Service workshops: Through myTVS, with a target of 120 service locations
🏭 Tamil Nadu Factory Begins Operations
On the same day as the showroom opening, VinFast started operations at its first overseas EV factory near Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Built on 400 acres, the plant has an initial capacity of 50,000 EVs/year, scalable up to 150,000.
The factory will produce the VF 6 and VF 7 models locally and create over 3,000 direct jobs. This move is part of VinFast’s broader plan to make India an EV export hub for nearby countries.
💡 Why It Matters
VinFast’s India entry is significant for several reasons:
- India is one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets
- Local production reduces cost and import dependency
- Strategic partnerships boost reach and service quality
With planned investments of up to $2 billion over 5 years, VinFast is setting the stage for serious competition in India’s EV sector, which currently features strong players like Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, and MG.
